West Ham away record remains a concern despite wins
West Ham United have transformed the mood around London Stadium with consecutive Championship victories, but one problem remains unresolved ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Bolton Wanderers. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are still searching for their first away league victory of the season, while their wait for one stretches all the way back to March.
Victories over Wolves and Derby County have lifted West Ham after a difficult start to life in the Championship.
The next challenge is taking that improvement on the road.
West Ham’s two Championship away matches this season have both finished level, with a 2-2 draw at Burnley followed by a 1-1 draw at Watford. Sky Sports’ fixture records confirm the Hammers are therefore unbeaten away in the division, but still without a victory.
Tuesday’s meeting with Bolton offers another opportunity to change that.
West Ham away record stretches back to March
The problem actually predates relegation from the Premier League.
West Ham’s last away league victory came at Fulham on 4 March 2026, when the Hammers left Craven Cottage with a 1-0 win.
Since then, their league results away from London Stadium have been:
- Aston Villa 2-0 West Ham
- Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham
- Brentford 3-0 West Ham
- Newcastle 3-1 West Ham
- Burnley 2-2 West Ham
- Watford 1-1 West Ham
That means West Ham will arrive at Bolton having gone six consecutive away league matches without winning.
By Tuesday night, it will have been 188 days since that victory at Fulham.
There is an important caveat. West Ham did produce an emphatic 4-1 Carabao Cup victory at Southampton last month, so Nuno’s team have already shown they can travel and perform this season. The club’s official results page confirms that St Mary’s victory came between the Burnley and Watford league draws.
The league record remains something Nuno will want to fix quickly.
Watford performance showed why West Ham must improve
The final result at Vicarage Road did not tell the entire story.
West Ham controlled 62.1 per cent of possession and took 11 corners, but managed only one shot on target from 13 attempts. Watford produced five efforts on target despite having considerably less of the ball.
That was before the back-to-back home victories which have begun to change the complexion of West Ham’s season.

Nuno now needs to reproduce that control away from home.

Bolton provide opportunity despite remarkable hoodoo
On current form, this appears a good opportunity.
Bolton sit 21st in the Championship with four points from five games after losing 4-0 at Millwall on Saturday. They have won only once in the league, beating Preston 2-1, and have since taken one point from four matches.
Their home record is one win and one defeat so far, after Lincoln City won 1-0 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on August 29.
There is, however, a fascinating historical warning for West Ham.
The Hammers have not won away at Bolton since a 3-0 Premier League victory in November 1995. Every subsequent competitive visit has ended in either a draw or Bolton victory, with the hosts winning the most recent meeting there 3-0 in April 2011.
That makes Tuesday about more than extending West Ham’s current winning run.
Nuno’s side can secure their first away Championship win, end a six-match away league drought and finally break a Bolton hoodoo stretching back more than three decades.
