Newark Liberty International Airport flights impacted by FAA equipment outage

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- The FAA has stopped departures at Newark and Philadelphia airports due to equipment outage, according to an advisory by the agency.

Air traffic controllers are advising pilots of radio issues at the TRACON -- the ATC facility which handles planes arrivals and departures for that airspace.

According to FlightAware.com, as of noon, Newark was experiencing arrival delays for inbound planes an average of 49 minutes and departure delays an average of 2 hours 4 minutes.

Flights into Teterboro are also impacted by the issues, according to a statement from the FAA.

The ground stop has been extended to 12:45 p.m.
