Departures to PHL halted as equipment issues cause ground stop, officials say

On Monday morning, officials cited equipment issues as a concern as a ground stop was issued for the Philadelphia International Airport.

Officials with the FAA said equipment issues caused a ground stop for planes departing for the Philadelphia International Airport and caused significant delays for flights leaving the city.

According to the FAA, as of about 9:48 a.m., a ground stop was put in place at the Philadelphia International Airport for flights coming into the airport.

Outgoing flights were delayed about 45 minutes due to the ground stop, the FAA said.

In an update, FAA officials said that the equipment issue is impacting Philadelphia International Airport, as well as Teterboro and Newark Liberty International airports.

The issues, officials said, were due to Philadelphia TRACON -- which is a facility where traffic controllers guide aircraft approaching and departing airports.

Officials initially said the ground stop is expected to be lifted by 11:15 a.m., but there was a 30 to 60% chance that the ground stop could be extended.

As of about noon, the ground stop had been extended until at least 12:45 p.m.
